10,000 Frames Archive Release #4

Archive File #4 ‘The Medium is the Message’

A study on value.

Archive Series by Brooke D’Avanzo

Welcome back to 10,000 Frames, an archive series where I’ve released my journey of mastering analog photography one roll at a time. Today I’ve developed 3,750 images of my 10,0000 photo goal. To see previous archives, check out 10,000 Frames.

ok, so we’re getting fancy now. As an artist- you get to the point where you understand your style and have the inspiration to create and share in new ways. This time I had to get my work out off of a screen. I found myself printing, touching, sifting, placing, curating…

“The medium is the message” a phrase that always stuck with me. Where you physically deliver your message determines its perceived value. A picture featured in a magazine has “more value” than a photo on Instagram. A letter in the mail is more intimate than a text message. A printed photo gives more nostalgia than a digital one.

“But Brooke- you’re sharing on a digital platform… how does this help your argument of ‘the medium is the message?”

This series is my response.

Archive release #4 features fully curated works. They have no business being viewed on a screen but we’ll settle on calling them “Previews”

These are photographs of physical printed-collaged works from my “medium is the message” series. Ready to be physically experienced, contemplated, and enjoyed over cocktails before dinner.

I enjoyed sifting through my 3,750 analog photos to bring you these stories. My gift to you; Moments from all over the world, combined in various narratives of coupled numbers, coupled parts, separation, patterns, likeness, contrast, and pure chaos. These series are meant to tell a different story to each viewer.
